Married January 9, 1911 at Holy Trinity. Mother of one son, but raised four children. Katie was born in Georgetown over the family bar. She was the only child of the second marriage of Sophia Stanton and James Gallagher. She was named after her Gallagher grandmother. This marriage cause a great deal of bad feelings between the Stanton and Gallagher families. After the death of her father, Katie Gallagher helped her mother manage what had originally been the Stanton family businesses that had been signed over to James Gallagher. Sophia was illiterate and unable to manage the 3 businesses that John Stanton had left. James Gallagher had been an employee in the Stanton bar on Wisconsin Ave. Yet, Katie as she was known to her family, became the mainstay of the Gallagher/Stanton/Potter family. In 1911 her mother came to live with her after being widowed for the second time. Katie sold the bar left to her by James Gallagher back to Frank Stanton. In 1913, Fannie Stanton Potter died at Katie's home where she nursed her step sister through her terminal illness. Because their father Ed was also in deteriorating health, Katie took in Fannie's 3 children who lived with her until the children left home to start their own families. During all this time, Katie was raising her own son Joe.
In 1953 after the death of her husband, Aunt Katie as she was then known, stayed with various family members until she could move back to Georgetown to be near Holy Rood Cemetery, where her entire family was buried. She is buried with her husband Joe.
Aunt Katie was a kind woman and loved by everyone who knew her.
