Charles W. Biddle, age 76, died Sunday morning at the family home, five miles east of Pendleton, six miles south of Anderson, on the New Castle Road. He had been in seemingly good health until he had a heart attack early in the morning which proved fatal.
Mr. Biddle was a prominent Madison County farmer of poineer stock. His grandfather, Caleb Biddle, settled in Adams Township, Madison County, in 1828.
He was born November 25, 1862, the son of James and Esther Biddle. He spent his entire life as a farmer and stock raiser. He served a term of three years as County Commissioner of Madison County and two terms as state representative in the state Legislature in the sessions of 1911 and 1913. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, having served at three different times as Master. He married Nellie M. Gray, of Madison County in 1889.
He is survived by the widow and three sons; Jesse S., a farmer on the home place; Howard J., with the Chrysler Motor Company of Detroit, and Ward G., comptroller and secretary to the Board of Trustees of Indiana University, at Bloomington.
Also survived by four grandchildren.
The funeral was held at the Ovid Lutheran church. J. Wesley Stewart and William Cunningham had charge of services and Tudor Jones sang.
