MANHATTAN -- Dorothy Ada Castillo, 94, Manhattan, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, at a Manhattan senior community.
She was born Dec. 3, 1904, at Strang, Neb., the daughter of The Rev. Arthur D. and Edith M. Wells Rice. She graduated from Manhattan High School and taught in a country school for a short time.
She attended Baker University and later the Art Institute in Chicago. She also taught art practice in Ravinia, Ill., while she attended the Art Institute.
Mrs. Castillo was a member of First United Methodist Church, Golden Age and Riley County Seniors' Service Center, all in Manhattan, the Writers Club at Chicago and the National American Association of Retired Persons.
She married Servillano A. Castillo on Jan. 21, 1929. He died July 3, 1958.
A son, Arthur Castillo, preceded her in death April 19, 1962.
Survivors include several cousins. Mrs. Castillo donated her body to the University of Kansas Medical Center for research.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel.
Inurnment at Sunset Cemetery will be at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church and sent in care of the funeral home.
