He was born in McElhatten, Pennsylvania, June 22, 1892, but had called Cameron County home for the past thirty-five years. He was an ardent sportsman and fought for better conditions of streams and forests. He was a champion of conservation in sports and practiced what he advocated at all times. He helped re-organize the Bucktail Rod and Gun Club and was active in its affairs. He also belonged to the Sinnamahoning Sportsmen's Association, the Isaac Walton League, the Cameron Game Dog Club. Other organizations in which he belonged were the Loyal Order of Moose and the Order of Railroad Telegraphers.
He was employed as a telegrapher by the Pennsy and had a record of 41 years service in railroading. He was popular with all who knew him and will be deeply missed, especially by the sporting fraternity.
He is survived by his wife, Edna, and four children: Homer of Herkimer, N.Y.; Mrs. Merle L. (Emma) [actually Edna] Bowser, Roselle, N.J.; William and Edgar of Emporium. Three brothers and one sister also survive: Harold, Duncannon, Pa.; George and Ralph of Lock Haven and Mrs. Robert McKinney (Beulah) of McElhatton, Pa. Funeral services were held at the Egan Funeral Parlor, Tuesday afternoon, December 27, with the Reverend George Leukel officiating. Remains were cremated at the Woodlawn Crematory in Buffalo, and the ashes were placed his beloved Mainstream near Sterling Run.
