Adam John Boebel, who died at his home on Sleight street, on Monday night, was one of the oldest citizens of Naperville. He had been sick for some time and finally death came to relieve of his troubles.
Mr. Boebel was born in Weilhun, on Tubingen, Wurtemburg, Germany, June 3, 1834. He was the youngest of eleven children, his mother dying when he was 11 years old. In 1849 he came to this country with his father, who settled in Naperville. Three brothers and three sisters were with them. His father died when Adam was 21 years old. In 1860 he was married to Sarah Yaggy. To them two children were born, Mrs. Sofrana Oakes and Jacob. Jacob died when he was a babe. Mr. Boebel moved to Iowa in 1860, living there until 1865, when his wife died. He then returned to Naperville.
In 1869 he was again married to Albertine Paeth. To this union one son, Frederick William, was born. These with Mrs. Oakes and two grandchildren, Albert and John Oakes, mourn his departure. Mr. Boebel was converted at the age of 17 in Kankakee, Ill., in a meeting conducted by Revs. Tobias and Schreiber. The early impressions of a praying mother never left him. He was a member of Salem United Evangelical church, having held various offices, such as class leader, steward, trustee. Funeral services were held at Grace church Thursday afternoon, May 18. Rev. J. G. Fidder assisted the pastor, Rev. L. C. Schmidt. Mr. Boebel had chosen as the text of his funeral sermon, Timothy 4;7-8.
