25 Aug 1930: Daniel Sharp Gerberich, aged 19 years, son of Dr. and Mrs. Harvey Gerberich, 5l4 Cumberland Street, died Thursday evening at 5:46 o'clock, at his home, after an Illness covering a period of two days. Pneumonia was attributed as the cause of death. Only on Wednesday the young man was feeling fine and was out as usual. Immediately following the heavy rain on Wednesday he took a slight cold which developed into pneumonia. The deceased was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church. He was a congenial and pleasant young man and had many friends, in fact practically every person who know Daniel was a friend. He had a very keen mind and was a brilliant student despite the fact that he never was able to enjoy school life like most of his friends. He was quick to grasp knowledge. Constant reading of the very best books and magazines besides Instruction from his kind and loving mother and father, gave Daniel his intellectual foundation. Daniel was a happy boy and enjoyed life and never complained of his physical handicap. He had friends with whom he enjoyed many hours of diversified pleasure. His death came as a shock to his parents, members of the family and his large circle of friends and neighbors. Besides the parents, Dr. and Mrs. Harvey Gerberich, two sisters survive. They are Christine, a student nurse at the Hahnemann Hospital, Philadelphia, and Mary Kathryn. [Lebanon Semi-Weekly News]
