PIONEER HERE PASSES TODAY

MRS. NORMAN COX, 68, LIVED IN COUNTY HER ENTIRE LIFE

Mrs. Norman Cox, 68, a resident of Big Rapids and vicinity all of her life, passed away early this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Dunn, on Monroe avenue, after an illness of several months. Her marriage to Norman Cox took place in Stanwood, August 10, 1881, and shortly after their marriage the couple came here to reside. For several years the family home was on Clark street but because of Mrs. Cox's ill health she was taken to her daughter's home more than a year ago.
Mrs. Cox was a member of the Baptist church and was a faithful attendant as long as her health permitted. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Dunn, and Mrs. John Ecklund of Grand Rapids. There are 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Her only son, Ernest Cox, was electrocuted in the Consumers Power building in this city in December, 1918, and Mrs Cox is said to have never fully recovered from the shock of his death.
Friends may call at the Dunn home Saturday afternoon if they wish to see Mrs. Cox, but the funeral will be private and will be held from the home Sunday afternoon. Interment will be in the family lot in Stanwood cemetery.

From the death certificate:

Ida Cox died on 17 Oct 1933 in Big Rapids of organic heart disease at
age 68y 22d. She was married. Born in NY, to parents Joseph Barto who was born in Canada and Matilda
Bennett who was born in NY.
