Mabel grew up in rural Kansas, the eldest of the five surviving children. Her mother died when Mabel was 16. Two years later, she married Waite Taylor and, when they moved to Washington state, they took the youngest sister, Lenora, with them. Over the next few years, Mabel's father and her other siblings also moved to the Yakima Valley.
She worked as a saleslady at J. C. Penney in Prosser until her retirement in 1951. She was a member of the Prosser Methodist Church where she was active in the Women's Society for Christian Service. She also was busy with the Women's Club and Chautauqua (a book study club).
In 1962 she moved to Tacoma where her daughter's family lived and soon became active in church (Mason Methodist), Women's Club, and the African Violet Club. Her final years were at Cottesmore in Gig Harbor.
