Funeral services for Ben Biggs, longtime Cherryvale resident, who died Sunday night at Mercy Hospital in Independence, will be held at 2:30 Thursday at the Burns Chapel. Bob Brock, minister of the Cherryvale Christian Church, will preside. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Mr. Biggs was a retired oil and gas rig builder. He was born Oct. 11, 1894 in Chilicothe, Mo. the son of Charles and Rachel (Simpkins) Biggs. On Oct. 22, 1937 at Hutchinson he was married to Letha McNeal, who survives at the home. Other survivors include: a son, Robert B. Biggs, Puyallup, Wash.; a daughter, Mrs. Vincent (Betty Lou) Culbertson, Iola (Note - Betty Lou was from his first marriage to Mary Eberhardt); two sisters, Nannie Kerschner of Hutchinson and Jean Kelso of Sacramento, Calif.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, two brothers and three sisters. - Independence Reporter, March 21, 1972, page 2.
