Her father was Chairman of the Edgecombe County Court and a Revolutionary Patriot. Granddaughter of Jacob Johnston (1714-1782) and Mary Waller (b. 1715), who came to NC from the Isle of Wight, VA.
Married Joel Battle April 9, 1801 in Edgecombe County, and was mother to 10 known children: William Horn Battle (1802), Rev. Amos Johnston Battle (1805), Richard Henry Battle (1807), Catherine Ann Battle (1809), Benjamin Dossey Battle (1811), Christopher Columbus Battle (1814), Isaac Luther Battle (1816), Susan Esther Battle (1819), Caroline C. Battle (1822), and Laura Caroline Battle (1824).
Widowed in 1829 at age 43, she survived another 37 years, passing in 1866 at age 80.
Her sons and daughters were all prominent citizens.
