He was a member of Forest Heights United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Mallie Newsom Sunday school class. He was also a member of
Jackson Masonic Lodge No. 45.
He belonged to the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks, Knights of Pythias, and the
Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
Flake leaves his wife, Ava Love Weaver Flake.

Services for John Howard Flake, 86, were at 11 :00 am today at the Griffin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. L.A. Dovle, Rev. Raymond Council and Rev. John W. Hulme officiating. Burial was in Obion County Memorial Gardens in Union City. AAr. Flake died Monday afternoon at Jackson Specialty Hospital.
Mr. Flake was born in Madison County October 31, 1903 son of late William M. and Ella Mainard Flake.
Mr. Flake was a retired Accounting Clerk for the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad. He had been a resident of Jackson most of his life. He was a member of the Forrest Heights United Methodist Church, the Mailie Newsom Sunday School Class, the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks, Jackson Masonic Lodge 45, Knights of Pythias, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ava Love Weaver Flake of Jackson.
Pallbearers were Judge Roy Morgan, Jr., Dr. Eddie Koonce, Bill Haskins, Tommy Haskins, Clark Shaw, Jimmy McCoy, Tommy Buntin and John Brazzell.
