The following is a series of articles written by Cindy Barnes for the Tallant/Tallent Association Newsletter.

"John TALLANT, David's father, was listed twice in the 1820 census once in Wilkes County, Ga. and again in St. Clair County, Ill. His son John TALLANT, Jr. died in 1919 and in Aug. 1919 he traveled to Illinois with his son, David for the estate sale. John TALLANT, Jr. migrated along with several members of the Castleberry family to Illinois. Estate proceedings show that his wife, Patsey TALLANT, was still alive and that several members of the Castleberry family as well as John Tallant, Sr. and brother, David Tallant were in Illinois for the sale of his estate 1 Aug. 1819.

"John, Jr. had a son, James M. TALLANT b. 1819 and he was on the Hall County School records in 1823. On 17 Sept. 1827 - Hall County, GA, Odian CASTLEBERRY was appointed guardian for James TALLANT, son of John TALLANT, Jr. deceased of ILL Hall County Estate Records - Odian CASTLEBERRY and David TALLANT were holding in trust fifteen hundred dollars for James TALLANT, son of John TALLANT, Jr. Sept. 1827. Castleberry researchers claim that Odian CASTLEBERRY was married to Margaret TALLANT, daughter of John TALLANT, Sr. and this is why Odian was appointed guardian of James M. TALLANT."
