Sylvia born to Alfred Moore Blalock and Mary Ellen Hendricks. A longtime resident of San Antonio, a member of North Side Church of Christ, and worked for 29 years with USAA as a telecommunicator in the automobile underwriting department and retired in 1978. After retirement, she was active with the USAA Golden Eagles as well as the Republican Business Women of Bexar County, as well as statewide and nationally. She has received many certificates of accomplishment relating to her work, landscaping and interior decorating. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers and 3 grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Earl Wesley Abernathy; daughters: Pearl W. Hinton and husband Coy of Avinger, Texas, Dorothy M. Odle of Waddell, Arizona, and Dolores A. Frankford and husband Ralph of Toney, Alabama; 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great grandchild.
