He was born Nov. 1, 1919, at St. Paul to Henry and Julia Purden George. He moved to Dodge City from Wichita in 1949, at which time he started George Nielsen Motor Co.
He served in the Army during World War II as a machine gunner with the Heavy Weapons Company.
On April 27, 1946, he married Alice Lietzan at St. Mary's Cathedral, Wichita. She survives.
Other survivors include four sons, Ronnie of Albany, Calif., Pat, Bob, both of Dodge City, and Charles of Coral Springs, Fla.; a daughter, Mary Williams of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Martha Ann.
A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel in Dodge City.
The family suggests memorials to Valley Hope Association, Sacred Heart School Endowment or the Ann and Virgil Dechant Foundation, all which may be sent in care of the funeral home, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, 67801.
