Jay Baxter was the son of James Baxter "Jim" Hensley and Amanda Jane "Mandy" Chastain Hensley.

Jay had three sisters; Ruth Jewel Hensley (Story), Leta Geneva Hensley (Bell) and Jenny Irene "Reenie" Hensley (Shook). One brother baby Fred who died on the day he was born in 1920.

Jay married Donna West they were blessed with three children; Jay - Jake and Jolynda.
