KINGSPORT — Crawford B. "Pete" Haney, 70, of Kingsport, died Saturday at Holston Valley Medical Center after a period of declining health.
Mr. Haney was born in Greeneville and was a son of the late Walter and Anna Mae Garr Haney.
He served 15 years in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Mr. Haney was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church and founder of Papaw Pete's Mailbox Club.
Survivors include his wife: Lois Cox Haney; four sons and three daughters-in-law: Michael and Jackie Haney of Auburn, Wash., Jim Haney of Erwin, and Melvin and Tina Cox and Larry and Lisa Cox, all of Jonesborough; two daughters and sons-in-law: Segrid and Bill LeGrand of Denver, Colo., and Brenda and Bob Wilson of Kingsport; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers: Edward Haney of Greeneville and Carmen Haney of Rogersville; two sisters: Juanita Green of Chuckey and Willein Haney of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Hubert Haney, Franklee Haney, and Lawrence Haney; and a sister: Dana Haney Burke.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening at East Lawn Funeral Home in Kingsport.
The funeral service will follow visitation at 8 o'clock in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Edward C. Dillow will officiate.
A graveside service will be held at 11 o'clock Thursday morning in East Lawn Memorial Park. Full military honors will be conducted by American Legion, Hammond Post #3, of Kingsport.
Family and friends will be pallbearers.
Memorial contributions may be made to Rock Springs Baptist Church Building Fund.
