Ruth Stephens Farrar, 90, died Saturday, February 14, 2004, at her residence in Nettleton. She was born March 16, 1913, in Monroe County to Wiley Stephens and Hattie Marshall Stephens and was the last surviving of 12 children. She was a 1930 graduate of Nettleton High School and was the last surviving member of her class. Before marrying, she taught first grade at Nettleton and eighth grade at Shiloh schools. She was also a telephone operator in Nettleton, Tupelo, Louisville, Meridian and New Albany. She was married Jan. 20, 1946, to Holder Farrar. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a caregiver to many. She was a member of the Nettleton First Baptist Church and a member of the Nettleton Parnassus Club and the Canasta Club.

Services were at the Nettleton First Baptist Church with Dr. Keith Dowden, the Rev. George Johnson and the Rev. Danny Dabbs officiating. Burial was in the Nettleton Cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Nettleton was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include two sons, Charlie Farrar and his wife, Glenda Bingham Farrar, of Columbus, and Bill Farrar of Nettleton; two grandchildren, Stephanie Akins and her husband, Kenny, and Stephen Farrar and his wife, Holly, all of Columbus; four great-grandchildren, Glenn, Mary Claire and Abby Ruth Akins and Chaz Farrar, all of Columbus; several nieces and nephews; her caregiver, J.C. Houston.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; nine brothers and two sisters.

Pallbearers were Eddie Sullivan, Bill Cheek, Neil Dabbs, Dennis Basden, Bill Tapscott and Dustin Dabbs.
