She married at age 16 to Harvey Jackson Gravlee and they had 12 children, 4 of whom died before age 2. She never learned to cook as her family had others who cooked; her husband taught her how after they married. Her husband died in 1927 and she is found 3 years later on the 1930 census living with her son, Gaines Grady Gravlee, in Homewood, AL. By the 1940 census, she had moved in with her daughter, Ruth and her husband, in Birmingham. She lived to the age of 93.
