Grandpa was born in Cleveland in 1918 and attended the parochial schools there. In the 1920 census his family lived at 1117 E. 147th Street and in 1930 they were at 1232 103rd Street in Cleveland, Ohio. Grandpa Paul was in the Army during WWII and went into service in 1943. He served mostly in the Pacific theater. When he got out of the Army, he took advantage of the G.I. Bill and went to college, graduating from Case Western Reserve. He met and married my grandmother, Virginia Koehl in the late 1940s. He began a career with Dow Chemical and moved his family from several towns in Ohio, to Charlotte, N.C. to Midland, Michigan to Edina, Minnesota. Grandpa was well known to us. He began struggling from emphysema in the 1980s and early 1990s, and died the week that I graduated from high school in May 1993.
