Obituary of John B. Blair

John B. Blair was born to Bernard and Mary Prudume Blair near Montreal, Canada, August 31, 1845, and passed away at his home in Moundridge, Kansas, August 12, 1933 at the age of 87 years, 11 months, and 11 days.

He came to Illinois with his parents and some brothers and sisters at the age of six years, in the year of 1851. At the age of 25 he was united in marriage to Miss Ozilda Manny. To this union four children were born. Two boys and two girls of which the girls and one boy died in infancy leaving Oliver Blair of Canton Kansas. Three years after her departing he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Thyfault of St. Ann, Illinois. To this union seven children were born. The oldest daughter, Adeline died in infancy and Mrs. Frank Egy passed away three years ago at Wichita, Kansas. The five boys are still living, namely Mose of Wichita, John of Littlefield, Texas; Steve of Charleston, West Virginia; Levi of Rozel; and Bern of Little Rock, Arkansas. At the age of 27 he came to Kansas with a little start that he had accumulated. He was greatly blessed for his ambition and hard work and was always willing to deprive himself to help his fellow man, and his motto was "it is more blessed to give than to receive". Mr. Blair and his first wife were united With the first Baptist church in their early life. His second wife was also united with the Baptist church in her early life and passed away in that faith. Mr. Blair was one of the pioneers who helped organize the Baptist church five miles east and one mile south of Moundridge.

Besides his sons he leaves to mourn his departure, four sisters and two brothers, namely Mrs. Margaret La Bo of Beaverville, Illinois, Mrs. Mealy Murry of Concordia, Kansas, Mrs. Angeline Ponton of Newton, Kansas, Mrs. Exhilda Murry of Tonkawa, Okla; Steve Blair of Red Rock, Okla., and Dezial Blair of Ponca City, Okla; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Blair of Newton, Kansas; also a host of relatives and friends.
