Leasel Pender, 84, died Thursday, December 11, 2003, at his home in Nettleton, Mississippi. He was born October 20, 1919, in Fayette County, Ala., to Harvey and Velma Anthony Pender. He was a lifelong resident of Nettleton. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He retired in 1982 at part owner of Pender's Auto Parts in Nettleton. He served as alderman for the City of Nettleton for two consecutive terms from 1969 to 1977. He was a member of the Nettleton Church of Christ. He was an avid camper, fisherman and hunter.

Services were held at the Nettleton Church of Christ with Bro. Jimmy Bates and Bro. L.D. Willis officiating. Burial was in the Nettleton Cemetery. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Nettleton was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors were his wife of 61 years, Eudell Waddle Pender of Nettleton; two sons, Billy Ray Pender and wife, Dot, of Nettleton and Roger Dale Pender and wife, Deborah Lynn, of Tupelo; two sisters, Ruby Waddle and Ann Harris, both of Nettleton; a sister-in-law, Lucille Pender of Nettleton; four grandchildren, Brad, Justin, Tyler and Kayla Pender.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Velma Anthony Pender; his father and stepmother, Harvey and Dulcie Pender; a daughter, Susan Pender; and a brother, Burnice "Dank" Pender.

Pallbearers were Walter Lee Parker, Paul Waddle, Mike Gray, Paul Dickerson, Benny Mack Waddle, Larry Williams and Troy Harris.

Honorary pallbearers were Harold Reeves, J.T. Griggs, Truman Reeves and Roy Barnett.
