John Hugh Harper
June 16, 1930 - April 22, 2009

John Hugh Harper went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Eagle Ridge of Grand Valley. He was 78 years of age. John was born June 16, 1930 to John C. and Kathryn C. (Enstrom) Harper in Colorado Springs, CO. John grew up in Grand Junction where he worked in his father's creamery (Harper's Dairy) washing milk bottles and delivering milk on a bike. He graduated from Mesa College in 1950. John was then employed as a boatman with Mexican Hat Expeditions running the Colorado River, San Juan River and Green River to Boulder Dam. He was in the first 200 to run the Grand Canyon with Chris Crafts and Cataract Row Boats. John was a veteran of the Korean War and stationed in Germany. He was an avid fly fisherman and hunter, his greatest joy was spending time on the Grand Mesa with his family. John married Lois A. (Shultz) in Mesa, CO on September 3, 1955, they raised their family in Mesa. John retired from the Collbran Job Corp. in 1994, he presently was a real estate broker with Century 21 Northridge Realty. Survivors include his wife, Lois of Palisade; daughter, Kimberle (John) West of Collbran; son, John (Julie) Harper of Pagosa Springs; son, Brent (Leslie) Harper of Grand Junction; sister, Nancy (Robert) Witt of Grand Junction; nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Cremation has taken place, services will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Molina Baptist Church in Molina, Colorado with Reverend Robert Witt officiating. Burial will be at the Mesa Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 60307, Grand Junction, Colorado, 81506 or Eagle Ridge of Grand Valley, 2425 Teller Ave., Grand Junction, Colorado 81501. Arrangements are under the direction of Snell-McLean Funeral Home, Palisade, Colorado.
