Sloan R. Smeltzer, 83, of Ford City RD 1 died at 9:40 a.m. Thursday (April 8, 1976) at the Armstrong County Memorial Hospital. He was a veteran of World War I, having served with Company E, 80th Division, 305th Engineers. He was a member of the MORA Club and a retired employee of Linde Air. He belonged to the Heilman Emanuel Lutheran Church, Garretts Run Rud. Born Dec. 11 1892, in Manor Twp., he was the son of Cyrus E. Smeltzer and Caroline L. (Shuster) Smeltzer. His wife Luella died March 4, 1975. Surviving are a son, Laird E. Smeltzer of Ford City RD 1; daughters, Mrs. Walter (Naomi) Reed of Ford City RD 1, Mrs. John (Caroline) Haney of Guthrie Road, Ford City, Mrs. William (Ruth) Zeigler of Kittanning RD 3, Mrs. Eli (Lois) Relich of Appleby Park, Ford City RD 2, 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. A brother and three sisters preceded him in death. SMELTZER – Friends of Sloan H. Smeltzer will be received after 2 p.m. Friday at the Frank M. Faykosh Funeral Home, Ford City, where funeral services will take place at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Robert Free, pastor of Heilman Emanuel Lutheran Church in charge. Burial will be at the Heilman Cemetery. Frank M. Faykosh Funeral Home in charge.
