BERT BLESSINGTON, FORMER POST STAFF ARTIST, EXPIRES
DIES IN HOME HERE AT AGE OF 69; FINAL RITES SET TUESDAY
Bert Blessington, 69, Houston cartoonist and formerly staff artist of The Post, died Sunday afternoon at his home at 115 West Gardner.

Mr. Blessington was one of the South's best known newspaper artists, having drawn a front page cartoon for The Post for many years. He left the employ of The Post in 1932 to enter the commercial art field. At the time of his death he was advertising manager for the Federal Bakery.

Mr. Blessington was a great favorite of the school children of a decade ago. For more than 10 years, he and Judd Mortimer Lewis visited dozens of Texas schools to give programs. Mr. Lewis would tell stories for the children, and Mr. Blessington would illustrate his remarks on the blackboard. Their informal presentations became highly popular.

Born in Des Moines, Mr. Blessington had lived in Houston for 30 years. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Florence Blessington; a daughter, Mrs. Cleve Koehler of Houston; a son, J. A. Blessington of Houston; and two grandsons and one granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Perry-Foley funeral home with Rev. Gordon M. Reese officiating.

Active pallbearers will be Robert C. Tucker Jr., Col. Damon Shipp, Mr. Christiansen, Billy Fry, Judd Mortimer Lewis, and Dr. O. M. Tinsley. Honorary pallbearers will be all members of the editorial staff and mechanical departments of The Post.
