Egnatz was born on May 25, 1889 in Biri, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county, in the Northern Great Plain region of eastern Hungary.
He immigrated to American on April 8, 1907 out of Hungary by departing from Bremen and arriving in the Port of New York. He was just 17 years old. He was planning to meet his father in LeHigh Valley, Pennsylvania. In May of 1910 the Red Jacket, West Virginia census has him living as a border in the home of John and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Spotilla. John and Lizzie had a daughter named Elizabeth (also called Lizzie) who was age 13 at the time. Egnatz and Lizzie were married on June 11, 1910. This 1910 census lists a Steve Onto and a Burnard Tote who I believe to actually be Steve ANTAL and BARNABUS TOTH ... father and brother-in-law of Egnatz.
Egnatz and Lizzie's first born child was John Antal born January 14, 1914. They also had Helena, Steve, Mary and Joseph.
In June, 1917 he completed a WWI Draft Registration Card and also a WWII draft registration card in 1942.
In 1918 he and the family were living with his father-in-law, John Spotilla, at their home at 3549 Connecticut Street, Gary, Indiana. Their residence remained on Connecticut Street until 1929 when they were listed at Clay Street, Gary, Indiana. In April of 1940 the family moved to Jasper County, Indiana.
Egnatz was naturalized in 1932.
On March 12, 1943 he was killed in an accident at the steel mill he worked at. He fell into a machine ... Cause of Death: Crushing fracture of pelvis, trunk and chest due to an accident at his place of work - crushed in gears. He is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Gary, Lake County, Indiana.

Hobart - Ignatz ANTAL, a local resident employed as a motor inspector in the 44 inch blooming mill of the Carnegie-Illinois steel works in Gary, died Friday shortly after he slipped and fell and was crushed in the hoisting gears of a crane in the mill.
The body was removed to the William and Burns funeral home in Gary. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
