Alex Willingham Buried Tuesday
Funeral services for Mr. Alexander M. Willingham. 67 years of age, who died at his home, 1242 Maryland Ave., Washington, D. C. last Saturday evening, were held in Cartersville Tuesday morning.
The body was carried direct from the train to the Episcopal Church and the rector, Rev. W. F. Moses, assisted by Rev. Richard C. Wilson, of the Presbyterian Church, conducted the last sad rites, in the presence of a number of friends of this former citizen.
Interment took place immediately afterwards at Oak Hill Cemetery, beside the graves of other members of his family, who are buried there. The pallbearers were Messrs. Will Young, Frank Wallace, R. A. Milner, Charlie Shellman, Walter Akerman, Lucius Hannon, Fred Milam, and Paul Beavers. The local arrangements were in charge of John W. Jones.
Surviving are two sons, Mr. Frank Willingham, of Washington, and Mr. Leonard C. Willingham, of East Hyattsville, Md. His wife, two sons and an only daughter preceded him to the grave only a few years ago.
For many years, until twenty years ago, Mr. Willingham made his home in Cartersville and was editor of a local newspaper. He made a host of friends, and although he had not lived here for two decades, he maintained a lively interest in the town and on his visits here received a hearty welcome. News of his death brought sadness to many hearts who knew and loved him in the years that are now gone.
