William E. French came to Maine about 1804 from the Bedford, New Hampshire area. His father's name was also William. Marriage intentions were filed on April 19, 1806 between William E. French Jun. of Thomaston and Mary Crawford (spelled Crafford) of Warren. They were married by Jonathan Huse, Pastor of the Congressional Church, Warren on May 26, 1806. On February 10, 1810 William bought 20 acres of land on the east side of the St. George River in Warren for $100.00 from his father-in-law John Crawford.
