Milton retired from teaching with the Indianapolis Public Schools after 34 years of teaching at IPS #43, #45 and IPS Juvenile Center for the majority of his teaching career. In addition he taught briefly in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Gary, Indiana, and Washington D.C. during his memorable teaching career. After retiring, Milton worked at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) in Lawrence, Indiana, for 15 years. Milton had a strong work ethic and often held several jobs at a time. Other jobs he held were ushering for the Indiana Pacers, Indianapolis Colts, and Notre Dame Football team, substitute teaching, and H&R Block Tax Company. He was active in politics and ran for candidate of public offices with both the Indianapolis Public School Board of School Commissioners and the City County Council of Marion County as a Democratic candidate. He was involved in several entrepreneurship ventures throughout his life that included co-owning Hall and Associates Tax Company.
Milton was actively involved in the community by volunteering and holding leadership positions in many civic and social organizations. He was a founding member of the Versatile Eleven Social Club and a life time member of NAACP. He maintained memberships with the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, American Legion, the Montford Point Marine Corps, Tennessee State University Alumni Chapter, The 100 Black Men associations in Indianapolis, and the Indiana African American Genealogy Group. He volunteered weekly at his granddaughters elementary schools and was a vital contributor to the Indiana State Museums Legacy Theater: Indiana's African-American Experience. His contributions to the community and his fellow man are endless. He was a dedicated friend, constant mentor to youth, and a champion of others accomplishments and successes. Milton loved history, sports, education and helping others. His favorite pass times were visiting museums, lifting weights, playing chess and scrabble, keeping up with current events and attending social events. Milton had a passion and deep love for all his friends and family. His contributions and involvement with the community and in others' lives are truly endless. Milton loved the Lord and often acknowledged and said that he was truly blessed and affirmed his trust in God.
Mr. Milton L. Baltimore, Jr. departed this life on Friday, February 7, 2014, at the age of seventy-eight years old. He was preceded in death by his sister, Rachel "Eleanor" Baltimore Frazier.
Milton leaves to cherish his memory his wife Ruth Ann; children, Robert Baltimore of Little Rock Arkansas, Dennis (Liska) Baltimore of Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and Denise (Chris) Glenn of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Wesley, Jesse, Adriana, Avery, Alexandra, Anna, and Aila. He is also survived by sisters Carole (Jerome) Rose of Birmingham, Alabama and Sheila (Clarence) Tignor of Silver Springs, Maryland; brothers, Averitte Wallace (Dixie) Corley of Indianapolis and Jerry Baltimore of Birmingham, Alabama. Milton is also loved and missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Milton's church home was Bethel A.M.E. Church Noblesville Indiana. He also recently celebrated his 40th wedding anniversary.
