W.A. "Don" Donnell Jr., 89, of Canyon died Monday, April 20, 2009, in Amarillo.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with Dr. David L. Lowrie Jr., pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery in Dumas by Brooks Funeral Directors.

Mr. Donnell died Monday, April 20, 2009, in his home in The Cottages at Quail Creek. William Abner Donnell Jr. was born Jan. 28, 1920, in Douglas, Ariz., to William Abner Donnell Sr. and Evie Belle Donnell. He graduated from Channing High School and received his pharmacy degree in 1938 from the Capitol College of Pharmacy and Science in Denver. In 1940, he married Esther Dicy Roberts. The couple had two children. They lived, worked and raised their family in three states, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. Mr. Donnell retired from independent pharmacy in Roswell, N.M., in the mid-1970s.

The couple moved to Canyon in 1981 and made their final home together there on Cemetery Road. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before Esther's death in 2001. Mr. Donnell served his country in World War II as a pharmacist in the U.S. Navy. He was a Mason and a member of First Baptist Church in Canyon.

He also was preceded in death by a son, S.D. "Dwight" Donnell; a grandson, James Dwight Troublefield; and a brother, H. D. "Dawson" Donnell.

Survivors include a daughter, Jerrie Donnell Norris of Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter-in-law, Mildred Donnell Ford of Odessa; three grandchildren, Kathryn Troublefield Hellberg and Karl Abner Donnell, both of Albuquerque, and Sheri Donnell Mudd of Lubbock; five great-grandchildren, Amelia and Chase Hellberg and Samantha and Alyssa Donnell, all of Albuquerque, and Olivia Mudd of Lubbock; and a sister, Juanita Donnell Feltz of Temecula, Calif.

The family suggests memorials be to The Cottages at Quail Creek, 6811 Plum Creek Drive, Amarillo, TX 79124; or First Baptist Church, 1717 Fourth Ave., Canyon, TX 79015.
