She was a popular actress known as Miss Ada Lester. She perished in the wreck of the "Clan Macduff" together with her father and sister. On October 18th, 1881 the ship "Clan Macduff" left Liverpool with cargo and passengers for Bombay. Several of the passengers were on their way to perform theatrical engagements. After passing Holyhead on October 19th, the ship ran into a severe storm, which caused a leak. The passengers were ordered to abandon ship, but during the operation passengers were lost as they jumped into the sea, or lifeboat capsized. In a position approximately 40 miles south of Roche's Point, the ship suddenly disappeared in a terrific gust of wind. The surviving passengers were taken to Plymouth and Liverpool by the ships "Upupa" and "Palestine". In all, 31 passengers were saved and about the same number perished.
