William D. "Benny" Barnes, Sr. passed into the arms of his Savior on April 20, 2009 at his home in Baytown. He was born on November 15, 1921 in Vernon, TX to Dudley Uen Barnes and Josephine Katherine Watson Barnes.

Mr. Barnes was a U. S. Air Force World War II veteran and a member of the VFW Post 912. He was employed by Exxon for thirty-two years, retiring in 1982. He was also a long time member of Memorial Baptist Church. One of his greatest passions since retirement was playing golf with his grandson and various friends. He was a long time member of the Chambers County Golf Course.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Bobby Uen Barnes and his grandson Christopher Barnes Webb. He is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Audrey Barnes of Baytown, son William D. Barnes, Jr. of Richmond, VA, daughter Rosemary Barnes of Cleveland, TX, son Robert Gibson of Plum Grove, TX, daughter and son-in-law Denise and R.V. Villarreal of Baytown, daughter and son-in-law Karen and Tony Voortmans of Baytown, grandchildren Carrie Hillmon of Alturas, CA, Laurie and Ben Barnes of Richmond, VA, Alex Voortmans of Baytown and great-grandchildren, Jessica, Christopher and Joshua Hillmon of Alturas, CA. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Bobby and Lois Barnes of Dripping Springs, TX, sister Mary Jackson of San Antonio, TX, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Navarre Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at Navarre Funeral Home with Pastor Brad Hoffman of Memorial Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Honoring Mr. Barnes as pallbearers will be Richard Barnes, Dick Roe, Monty Neely, Ben Barnes, Alex Voortmans and Mel Vyvial. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Bowman, Ivan Gustin, R.V. Villlarreal and Tony Voortmans.

His family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Toks Akinyeye and Dr. Edward Leahey.
