Jacob was married three times. He first married (1) Minerva Gunyon on 11 Dec 1884 in Hancock County Indiana. After Minerva's death he married, (2) her sister and widow Nancy E. Gunyon Hall on 6 July 1892 in Hancock Co. They were divorced before 1900 and Jacob married (3) Lillie May Crull Robbins, widow of Charles Robbins, on 18 Oct 1908 in Hamilton County Indiana.

Jacob and Minerva had two children:
Homer Franklin Olvey 1884-1947
Sarah J. Olvey Boyden 1887-

Jacob died from head injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Muncie, IN, while on his way home from a party.

Nancy Gunyon Hall Olvey married James LaFollet/LaFillet, 3 Jan 1895, her 3rd marriage. In 1900, Homer and Sarah J. Olvey were enumerated with this couple as niece and nephew. They actually were Nancy's ex-stepchildren. Sarah J. Olvey was also enumerated in 1900 in the hh of Joseph and Rachel Palmer, indicated she was their granddaughter. The marriage records of Hancock Co., IN show a marriage between Sarah and Walter Boyden, 25 Nov 1905.
