Dies Suddenly

Louis M. Waddell, 78, a lifelong resident of Waynesburg and well known business man, died suddenly of a heart attack yesterday (Friday), July 14, 1944, at Colonial Place, two miles east of Waynesburg on the Carmichaels road.

A son of George and Carolyn Throckmorton Waddell, he was born Dec. 14, 1865, in Waynesburg, and married Elizabeth Rinehart, whom he survived little more than two months. Mrs. Waddell having died on May 11, 1944. For a number of years Mr. Waddell was engaged in the hardware business in Waynesburg, being associated with the late E. L. Denny in a hardware store which was located at the present site of the Union National Bank. In late years he had devoted his time mostly to the oil and gas business and was a director and one of the largest stockholders of the Waynesburg Home Gas Company. He was affiliated with the First Presbyterian Church of Waynesburg.

He is survived by one son, Louis Waddell, Jr., of New York City, N. Y.; one daughter, Mary, wife of Attorney T. Ewing Montgomery, of Philadelphia; five grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. I. H. Knox, of Waynesburg, and Mrs. C. R. Notman, of Pittsburgh."
