Betty M. Bonczynski, 82, of Loup City, formerly of Ashton, died Monday, Jan. 23, 2006, at Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ashton. The Rev. Louis A. Nollette will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Francis Catholic Cemetery at Ashton.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church, with a vigil service at 7:30. Peters Funeral Home in Loup City is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Bonczyncki was born on Feb. 13, 1923, on a farm near Farwell to Peter and Isabelle (Harvey) Johansen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond S. Bonczynski, on Sept. 17, 1994.
Survivors of the immediate family include four sons and three daughters-in-law, Jack and Dianne Bonczynski of Baytown, Texas, Ken and Deb Bonczynski of Kearney, Gery and Jane Bonczynski of Columbus and David Bonczynski of Lincoln; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda Coppock of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Cyndi and Christopher Lesch of Newark, Ohio; and a brother and sister-in-law, Harvey and Ruth Johansen of Grand Island.
She also leaves to cherish her memory 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Betty attended District No. 24 rural school near Dannevirke and later attended the Curtis Agricultural School, where she received her teaching certificate. She then taught at the Paplin School.
She was united in marriage to Raymond S. Bonczynski on Oct. 14, 1942, at Paplin. The couple farmed east of Ashton until 1974, when they moved into Ashton. The couple owned and operated "Ray's Bar" in Ashton from 1973 to 1985, when they retired.
After Mr. Bonczynski's death, Betty continued to live in Ashton until January of 2003, when she moved to Rose Court Assisted Living in Loup City. She later moved into the Rose Lane Home, where she lived the rest of her life.
She enjoyed cooking, reading, sewing and making quilts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; also, she and Ray loved to dance.
She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women. She was also an active member of the Ashton Community Club.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Willard and William Johansen; and two sisters, Beulah Keller and Anne Hansen.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Francis Cemetery Fund or the Ashton Volunteer Fire Department.
