CLOCKVILLE - RoseMarie (Davis) Lopitz, 96, of 3538 Watson Road, Canastota, died on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at her home with her family by her side, following a lengthy illness.
She was born on May 9, 1916, in Canastota, a daughter of Albert and Elizabeth Ingersoll Fritz.
RoseMarie has lived in Canastota all of her life, attending the Canastota schools.
She worked for Smith-Lee in Oneida for 16 years, retiring in 1959, to stay home and raise her daughter, Debra.
RoseMarie was a member of the Clockville United Methodist Church, and the Ladies Aide.
She was dedicated to her family, and had been a caregiver for many family members. RoseMarie loved nature, especially flowers and gardening, as well as animals and children. She was always an advocate for the underdog. RoseMarie was a doll collector and an avid reader. She had a gift for story telling, and was the family historian.
RoseMarie married Andrew J. "Andy" Davis on April 4, 1943, in Vernon Parish, La. Andy died on Jan. 23, 1989. She later married Nicholas "Nick" Lopitz on Sept. 9, 1989, in Clockville. Nick died on Sept. 24, 1992.
Surviving are: one daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Robert Sturdevant, III, of Clockville; two grandchildren, Robert J. Bach and Kenneth A. Bach, and his girlfriend, Maureen Starrs; her loyal friend and companion, her dog "Timmy"; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. RoseMarie was predeceased by one brother, Robert Fritz; and three sisters, Hazel Caldwell, Dorothy Marsh, and Alice Harrington.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at the Clockville United Methodist Church, Clockville. The Rev. William M. Wilcox, pastor of the Fyler Community Church, will officiate. Spring burial will be in Clockville Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, from 4-7 p.m. at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James St., Canastota. In her memory, contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, N.Y. 13413, or to the Clockville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 15, Clockville, N.Y. 13043, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
