The only surviving son of Thomas Philip Robinson (later de Grey), 2nd Earl de Grey of Wrest, and Henrietta Frances Cole, daughter of William Cole, Earl of Enniskillen. Thomas Robinson later took the name de Grey upon gaining the earldom. He was the son of Thomas Robinson, 2nd Baron Grantham, and Mary Jemima Yorke. He was the 3rd Baron Grantham at the time of Frederick's death. He became Earl in 1833. He died age 21 years.
