Army Staff Sergeant Baldwin "Bobo" Satchel, 31, the second Lawrence County native to die since the American military buildup in Saudi Arabia and the first to die since Operation Desert Storm began, was buried Thursday afternoon with full military funeral. He died of a heart attack January 22, 1991.

Satchel served with the 229th Supply and Services Company, a petroleum supply unit. A 12 year Army veteran, Satchel was sent to Saudi Arabia from Ludwigsburg, Germany, about mid-December.

An estimated 300 people at Satchel's funeral crowded into First Baptist Church of Courtland, adjacent to Courtland High School where Satchel graduated in 1978.

During the burial ceremony the military detail folded the flag that covered Bobo Satchel's casket and presented it to his widow, Teresa Reynolds Satchel. A flag for the soldier's father and mother, William and Mary Satchel, was handed to his brother Charles Satchel.
