KOKOMO TRIBUNE 1932 JULY 26
MRS. J. M. LEACH DIES SUDDENLY AT LAKE HOME
PASSES AWAY SHORTLY AFTER NOON TUESDAY AT COTTAGE OF MARK A. BROWN
Mrs. Emma Leach, aged 62, 406 West Walnut Street, widow of John M. Leach, died about 1:30 Tuesday afternoon, after an illness of only a few hours, at the summer home of her nephew, Mark A. Brown, at lake Maxinkuckee.
News of Mrs. Leach's death was received here by telephone, by her step-daughter, Mrs. Nettie Meck, 502 West Jefferson Street, at 2 o'clock. The message stated that Mrs. Leach had just died, most unexpectedly, and asked that Mrs. Meck and her daughter, Mrs. Ruth Owens, come immediately.
When Mrs. Mack question further, she was told that Mrs. Leach had a slight attack of indigestion Monday evening and passed a rather uncomfortable night, but had seemed much improved through the forenoon. No alarm was being felt when, shortly after the noon hour, she was taken suddenly worse and soon passed away.
No arrangements for the funeral have as yet been made but it is assumed that the body will be brought to Kokomo for final rites and burial in the Leach family lot in Crown Point Cemetery. The funeral party probably will arrive some time Wednesday.
Mrs. Leach's maiden name was Emma Dean. She was reared in the western part of Grant County. She was united in marriage with John M. Leach, prominent Kokomo manufacturer, July 3, 1900, and had resided here continuously since. Mr. Leach died in October 1914. There were no children but there was a particularly affectionate attachment between Mrs. Leach and her step-daughter, Mrs. Meck and all members of the latters family. A like kindly feeling existed between Mrs. Leach and her step-son, Howard L. Leach, who the last several years has resided in Los Angeles, California.
With Mrs. Leach, for the last several years, had resided Miss Agnes Hawkins. The latter was at the Brown home at lake Maxinkuckee when the fatal illness overtook Mrs. Leach, and it was she that put through the call to Mrs. Meck.
In Kokomo, Mrs. Leach had a wide circle of friends. She was a woman of much personal attractiveness and most lovable disposition. In every group in which she was known, she was esteemed for her fine tact, amiable disposition, considerateness of others, and unusual worth of character. Because she looked so well, and because she was still comparatively young, the news of her death will be a shock to all who knew her.
In addition to relatives mentioned, Mrs. Leach is survived by a sister, Mrs. J. W. Scobee, Winchester, KY., and a brother, Glen Dean, in Detroit, Michigan.
