Lurlene Crisbell Nichols Belt was born on September 15, 1914 in Ringwood, Oklahoma. Her parents were John Judson Nichols (1882-1908) and Sue Gray Brigance Nichols (1883-1972). Lurlene was second child of two born to John and Sue. Their son, Lynell Nichols, was born Jan.,10, 1910 and died young of tuberculosis in 1940.

Lurlene lived most of her young life in Okmulgee, Oklahoma near aunts and uncles who helped raise her. She graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1931 and attended Okla. State Univ. for 2 years.
She married Harold Edwin Belt (1914-2005) on July 21, 1940 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma.

Lurlene and Harold made their home in Oklahoma City and had three children. Claudia Sue Belt Yost, John Claude Belt and Martha Gail Belt Malinowski.

Even though this marriage ended early in divorce in 1945, Lurlene managed to raise her three children alone with the help of her mother.

Lurlene was an amazing woman and mother of her time. She was a Cub Scout mother and Brownie mother, she also provided music, dance and speech lessons for her children.

She had several occupations during her life. She had a Travel Agency, worked at Hertz Car Rentals for many years, acquired her Real Estate license and business, owned and operated a Variety Store "Lurlene's Toggery" and retired from State of Oklahoma Tax Commission.

She attended Christian Science Church and was a long time member of Nova chapter 241 of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Lurlene has seven grandchildren. Shelly Sue Yost Ayres, Matthew Harold Yost, Johnna Sue Belt Siegrist, Machelle Dupler Grimes, Kelly Rene Ramos, Nicholas Victor Malinowski and Erik David Malinowski.
