Stephen Booton, a pioneer citizen of Golden, died at his ranch beyond Guy Hill early Monday morning. Death was immediate. The deceased arose from his bed, and then sank in a moment to the floor. He was found dead after some hours by his daughters who entered to call him to breakfast. The funeral will take place Friday morning at 10 o'clock, from the Presbyterian church. All the family with exception of P. M. Booton the youngest son, were at home on the ranch at the time of the death. On December 19 the 50th anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Booton was to have taken place. P. M. Booton the son reached Golden today. His home is about 30 miles beyond Rifle, Colo., where he has a ranch. The pall bearers will be chosen today from among the many friends of the deceased. The deceased was 73 years of age. He was born in Virginia. He and his wife came to Colorado from Illinois 39 years ago. They settled in their present Booton home and have never left it. Then were the days when all the business of the mountains went by Golden Gate and Guy Hill to Black Hawk. After the railroad was put through, the value of the roads as a way of travel diminished. There are, beside the widow, four surviving children: two daughters, Rose and Allie, and two sons, Dan and P. C. Booton. The interment is to be in the Masonic cemetery of Golden.
