On both the 1900 and 1910 censuses, Thomas showed his occupation as "shoe cutter". He is variously referred to as "Ben" and "Bennett" on death notices for his mother Mary and his brother William Nelson McKenzie (q.v.) And on both records he is shown as being married to Anna McKenzie, yet on his death certificate - for whom Mrs. George Lord [Janet (Ruthven) Lord] was the informant - he is shown as never having been married. Yet on the same certificate, his "usual occupation" is shown as "shoe finisher" which matches up with the data on the 1900 and 1910 censuses.
