Son of James Houston Gibson (b. 2 May 1847; d. 16 April 1884) and Martha Caroline Hillhouse Gibson Yandell (b. 18 February 1850; d. 17 January 1947).

Grandson of Nancy Jane Davidson (b. 5 October 1827; d. 18 February 1880) and Joseph Dowdle Gibson (b. 28 November 1825; d. 13 March 1913) and of Robert Stevenson Hillhouse (b. 4 October 1824; d. 30 June 1910) and of Mary Jane Inman (b. 22 June 1829; d. 2 March 1905).

Born in Ranger, Eastland County, Texas, Connie moved with his widowed mother and sisters to Wagoner County, Oklahoma, after his uncle, John W. Gibson, established a ranch there. Connie became an accomplished stockman and, eventually, became co-owner of the Perkins-Gibson Ranch near Boynton in Muskogee County. Later, he moved to Osage County and bought a ranch there, where he lived until his death.
