Funeral Rites For Pioneer Resident Held
Mrs. Mattie Viola Turner, 84, who had lived in southern Marshall county practically all her life, died Monday afternoon in a Durant hospital. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the Kingston Pentecostal church, conducted by Mrs. Thelma Hale. Burial was in the Powell cemetery, under the direction of Watts Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Bill Justice, Hubert Wilkins, Frank Black, Floyd Harris, Milton Ash and Ted Murr. Mrs. Turner was born March 21, 1883, at Sulphur Springs, Tex., and moved with her family to Powell when she was about 10 years old. She was married to Jim Madison Turner January 12, 1900, at Powell, and they continued to live there for many years before moving to Shay, where they lived for several years before moving to Kingston in 1943. Mr. Turner died May 18, 1963. She had been a member of the Kingston Pentecostal church for many years. Survivors include one son, Milton Turner, of Kingston and two daughters, Mrs. Sarah Watson, of Kingston and Mrs. Cora Herrin, of Lone Grove. Other survivors include 21 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
