Charles J. Bauer was born in Sutton, October 18, 1881. He lived here practically all his life and was a young man highly respected. He died Wednesday morning, August 9, 1916.
Mr. Bauer had been in the employ of the post office department for 10 years 2 months and 24 days. For four years he was assistant post master. These positions he held with credit doing efficient service to the day of his untimely death.
Early in life he united with the Evangelical Church of Sutton, and in 1907 he united with the Congregational Church. He was a member of the A. F. and A. M. and had taken the 32 degree in March 1915, and held the position of secretary and at the time of his death was junior warden.
On June 5, 1907, he was married to Miss Bessie Griffin, who has the sympathy of all, in the loss of an affectionate husband.
Mr. Bauer was secretary and treasurer of the Sutton Commercial Club at the time of his death, which position he had held a number of years. He always took interest in public matters and was a booster in all public enterprises.
The funeral services were held at the home of his father, Jacob Bauer, conducted by Rev. G. B. Warren and Rev. Mr. Norenberg and the burial services were in charge of the Masonic Lodge.
A large number of beautiful flowers given by patrons of the rural route of which he was the carrier, by the lodges, Commercial Club and friends, were in evidence. The sorrowing ones have the sympathy of the entire community in their sorrow.
