Jonathon Lorraine Catchings, one of seven sons & a daughter of Revol. War Major Benjamin Catchings Jr. & Mildred Criddle. He was b. 1786 @ Wilkes Co., GA. He and two of his brothers (Joseph and Phillip) came from Wilkes Co., GA to "MS Territory" in 1809 with their families. He was a "private" in the 13th MS Militia in the War of 1812 - fought in the Battle of New Orleans. He moved his family from Pike Co. to Hinds Co. before 1820 and settled near Palestine. His 1st wife Lawrany Thompson (m/o 3 children) d. 1833; he next married widowed Martha Fairchild Gallmon (mother of six Gallman children, two Catchings children - neither lived to adulthood). JL Catchings & family had extensive farming interests in Pike & Hinds Counties and were early members of Palestine Baptist Church, organizing church of the MS Baptist Convention.

This cemetery is located down the hill from his home site off Parsons Road in south central Hinds County. It is located on "private property" and may not be entered without advance permission from the owner.
