SMITH PICKEL DEVIN was born July 11, 1867 in Bolivar, Polk County, Missouri to Elvira (Pickel) and Joseph Benton Devin.

He married Sylvia F. Shanner on May 16, 1900 in Hardman, Morrow County, Oregon.

To this blessed marriage were born the following children:

Alma D. Devin
Etta P. Devin
Leora S. Devin
Harlan Justus Devin

Smith came from Boliver, Missouri with his father in 1894 to live in Heppner, Oregon.

The Devin family farmed near McKinney Creek. Later they moved to Heppner where Smith went into the shoe business.

Followed by working on the Willow Creek farm with Norman Kelley. Later he bought a farm near the Kelley ranch.

Smith then sold the farm and became the chief of police for 13 years.

Later serving as a custodian at the Masonic building.

His wife Sylva F. and Smith P. Devin share the same headstone.
