Robert J. Goodwin, 75, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2007. He is preceded in death by his father Leonard (Bill) Goodwin; mother, Hazel Goodwin; sister, Ellen Ballou; and nephew Matthew Cooper. Mr. Goodwin graduated from Andrew Lewis High School in 1951 and remained an active organizer of his class activities. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He retired from Whitescarver, Hurd and Obenchain with 43 years of service where he made plumbing engineering specifications for many buildings throughout the state. He participated in several engineering organizations and received professional designations. Mr. Goodwin enjoyed attending Salem recreation events and school events that his grandchildren participated in. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, Boy Scouts, and serving his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara Goodwin; son, Paul (Chip) Goodwin; daughter, Julie Wilburn; grandson, Morgan Wilburn; granddaughter, Bailey Wilburn; sister, Sandy Cooper; brother-in-law, Jerry Cooper; mother-in-law, Helen Janney; Godchild, Marissa (Flip) Hitchcock; niece, Diane Simmons; nephews, Len Cooper and Kim Ballou; and special friends, Diane Hopkins and Ron Myers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Ronald McDonald House, 2224 Jefferson St., Roanoke Va. 24014 or Salem Sports Foundation, P.O. Box 642, Salem, Va. 24153.
