HIRAM W. ESTES DIES
Hiram W. Estes, for many years a leading farmer and stockman of this county, passed away at his home east of Newtonia last Saturday morning, aged nearly 77 years.
He had been in poor health several years. Deceased was born in the neighborhood on December 18, 1848, and had lived in this township practically all his life.
He was engaged in farming and stock raising and for many years was a leader in that line in the county. Years ago he was very active in politics, having been a Republican nominee for office in some of those campaigns when the Republicans had small chance of getting elected.
He was married to Miss Minerva Jane Herod, and to this union one son, Mac O. Estes, and one daughter, Mrs. June Powell, were born, both of whom survive him. His wife died several years ago.
The funeral services were held at this late residence Sunday afternoon, with interment in the Newtonia, I.O.O.F. cemetery, the Masons holding rites at the grave.
