"Died - At the residence of Peter Assenmacher in Seneca, on December 23, 1891, John Koehler Sr., aged 77 years, 8 months, and 17 days. Mr. Koehler was born April 6, 1814, in the village of Tiedelsen, Province West Phalia, Germany. When a boy, he worked on a farm; when grown up, he learned silk weaving in Crefeld, Germany, until 185[1?]. When he came to America and settled in Minnesota near St. Paul, where he was engaged in farming. On account of ill health, he changed climate and come to Kansas in 1872 and settled in Seneca as a private citizen. Mr. Koehler had contracted asthma in his early struggles as weaver and farmer. In later years, he lived from the interest of his hard-earned means. He leaves three sons and two daughters to mourn his loss, who are all grown up and of age. Peter and Henry Koehler are prosperous farmers of this county. John Koehler Jr. we are sorry to say is at present in an asylum. One of the daughters of is the wife of our esteemed townsman, Peter Assenmacher; the other, the wife of of Mr. Luckeroth, one of the substanial farmers of the this county. Funeral, Saturday, Dec. 26, at 10 o'clock a.m. at the Catholic church, Seneca."
