Wilbert Maupin, 102, of Columbia died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at The Williamsburg.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Charles Parker and Clifford Cato officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at the funeral home.
Mr. Maupin was born Sept. 30, 1895, in Ashland to Earle Marvin and Lida Trellis Wren Maupin.
He married Mona Irene Sandker on Oct. 14, 1920, in Columbia, and she preceded him in death.
He was a veteran of World War I and was honored in June as being the oldest living World War I veteran living in Missouri. He was a member of General Pershing's honor guard that traveled throughout Europe. He was employed for 34
years with Dorn Cloney Laundry before retiring in 1963.
Survivors include a son, Harvey Maupin of Columbia; three daughters, Shirley Smith of Columbia, Ellen Sapp of Joplin and Sue McGee of Temecula, Calif.; a sister, Margaret Ellen McGee of Lakeside, Calif.; 21 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, a daughter and five brothers.
